Houston Guide // Day 1

Last week, my friends from Germany arrived in the USA for the first time. I had the exciting honor of showing them around their first American city: Houston. We started things off right in Montrose & finished the night at RodeoHouston.

The Menil Collection, Rothko Chapel 1533 Sul Ross St
My friends asked me to take them to my favorite spot in Houston and I took them here. Showing the Menil's private collection and also rotating exhibits, I easily fall in love with the Menil over and over again. Houston has such a large, diverse art community and I think the Menil houses the best of what Houston has to offer. The space is so beautiful and serene, I always feel so inspired after spending an afternoon here. Also, it just so happens the Menil showcases my favorite Warhol piece, Flowers, 1964.

We also walked over to the Rothko Chapel, a meditative space housing large scale Rothko paintings. The space is so eerie but calming. It is unlike any other place I've ever set foot in.

Common Bond Bakery 1706 Westheimer Road
We headed over to this recently opened spot for some much needed food.

Quinoa salad, Long bean salad

Space 1706 Westheimer Road
We walked right next door to check out space. It features handcrafted goods and focuses on local artists. Everything in this shop is too cute and it's impossible to walk out empty handed. It's the perfect alternative for a typical souvenir shop when you want to find something that is unique to Houston or Texas.

Buffalo Bayou Bridge 3600 Memorial Dr
We made an unexpected stop at Buffalo Bayou Park. We were on our way to see the giant president heads (which are now no longer there) when my friend thought it was the perfect view of downtown. We walked along the park and took in some fresh air and skyline views.

Torchys Tacos 2411 S Shepherd Dr
Outdoor patio, Houston beer, tacos, and queso.

RodeoHouston NRG Stadium
My friends were able to catch the last weekend of the Rodeo and have their share of fried food, cattle, carnival rides, country music and more.

fried ice cream, fried brownie, fried dough-e-oreos

stay tuned for more :)
